Problems:

• No effective data communications between both offices.

• No ability to communicate and share information within/between offices.

• VOIP implementation results in frequent dropped calls.

• Poor security due to the absence of a server and the use of Windows 98 operating system.

• No ability to track staff time at both sites.
• No remote access to the network and e-mail.

Solution:

To address these problems and improve its business processes, Umoja Head Start Academy engaged DSQ Solutions. DSQ Solutions evaluated the situation and implemented a solution consisting of the following:

• A LAN/WAN infrastructure was designed and installed consisting of a Site-To-Site VPN (which allows secure connectivity between both sites) and Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 was installed on a server.

• Exchange Server 2003 was configured on the server, providing secure communication in the form of e-mail, shared calendar and many features of Outlook.
  

• Outlook Web Access (OWA) was configured to provide anywhere access to e-mail.

• Remote Web Workplace was configured to allow secure remote network access.

• The Intranet Site was configured and the home page of every staff member was locked down by using group policy.
  

• All Windows XP professional workstations were connected to the network; “Folder Redirection” was implemented.

• IP enabled time clocks were installed at each site and configured to synchronize with a central server.

• The VOIP system was decommissioned due to budgetary constraints.
